Project Profile: Repairs to an estate wall
Location: Middleton Estate, Midlothian
This boundary wall had a section flattened by a falling oak tree in one Scotland’s winter gales.
Because the wall was built of rubble stone with a soft lime mortar it could be repaired using all the original stone. With consistency of a balanced building style, rubble walling can be a work of art.
The wall was re-coped using the original half-round pieces. All the work was flush pointed with a lime mortar for a weather proof finish.
