New entrance pillars – Merchiston Avenue

These original mid 19 th C pillars were badly damaged by a delivery lorry. The client requested that both pillars were replaced with new replicas. The pillars were removed from site, they were then measured and templated. The new pillars were made from Witton Fell sandstone and bedded with lime putty.
The stop chamfers and moulded profile of the caps were copied. The stone was all dressed in a style called sparrow pecking.
